"Even if done well, a copy is always a copy, the original is always original"
Art isn't only talent and/or study but it's also and especially experimentation and process of creation.
You can draw very fine, you can know all artistic techniques, you can have the best tools possible and imaginable, you can have a good sense for aesthetics and colors, but if you don't experiment and create your process of creation you are only a good professional man of art but you don't have personality.
The personality consents to distinguish you from others in the daily life and in any profession but it's fundamental in the art: it consents you to give a form to imagination, it consent you to imagine and give a form to the thinking through a mental process that it's a distinguishing sign of the artist.
That distinctive sign can be imitated but it will not be never like the original, you can copy an image and repeat the technique but never the process of creation that it is at the foundation of image realization, a process that only the author of original image knows, can explains, can talks about it.
When I begin to be interested in digital art, the first sector I have experimented it was the fractal art. The major challenge with the fractal images was given to render those images unique and not replicable.
The fractal graphics will be also fascinating but it's also realizable through softwares that they are used from other artists and mathemathicians so in theory they would consent to anyone to obtain the same image.
However much I can say of cultural mediation of artist on fractal image, this background for me it's always the obstacle to overcome for render the graphics of fractals not replicable and so you can define it "fractal art" and not "graphic representation of fractals".
The experimentation, not only of new camps of application for fractals in the art and in the computer graphics, but especially the composition and the break up of images were been the foundation for that it became my personal research of deconstructivism applied to digital images and the migration to generative art.
Personally I have worked much on experimentation of "art not replicable" just for a question tied to my backgound in the design and open source intelligence. This post is to remember you that an artist isn't a counterfeiter because it's visible its personality and the process of creation while a counterfeiter imitates but it will not be never the original not being able to know what is behind the creation of an artwork.
